Unique dining experience
We had a great evening out at ‘Karr’ in Rue Alphonse Karr which is between the apartment and the pedestrian area. The food is excellent.

If you want a very different and unique dining experience, go to the Brasserie Flo in Rue Sacha Guitry which is just behind the Galeries Lafayette (Ave Jean Medecin). Food is phenomenal and the restaurant is based in an old theatre – the kitchen is actually built on the stage!

Expensive & cheap
A couple more suggestions for eating out: the restaurant Chanteclor in the Negresco hotel was expensive but excellent. The hotel is worth a visit itself with the rather bizarre but beautiful art deco lobby.

At the other end of the scale, if you want an authentic local experience, you can queue up for a portion of socca (chick pea pancake – local speciality) at the Café Rene in the old town. Very wholesome!

Where to eat
The Quebec – located on the pedestrian street (Rue de France). Fantastic prices and good food. Waiters really friendly and appreciate you trying to order in French.

Ma Nolan’s – Irish bar in the old Nice. Great atmosphere, fantastic English food. English football matches shown. Good bands and free internet access (when working). Like a traditional English/Irish pub. English speaking staff – for when you’re sick of speaking French.

The square around Ma Nolans has loads of other nice restaurants – Spaghetissimo is really, really nice and reasonable. Worth a visit also is the little market selling little gifts and unusual things.

Try Bocaccio's
The best meal we ate was at Bocaccio in Rue de France. For a nightcap, I recommend you try the Oasis Hotel, 23 Rue de Gounod – lovely courtyard to sit under the night sky and enjoy your drink and cigar.

Eat in Monaco
For food, we definitely recommend a trip up to the Palais in Monaco for an evening – there are lots of little restaurants with great food and great views. Good value for money.

La Havana - watch the dancing
Great place to eat – ‘La Havana’s’ on Rue de France: great food, good atmosphere and fun watching the dancing.

Recommended restaurant
Restaurants to recommend are ‘La Maison Bleue’ on Rue Meyerbeer and anything in Rue de l’Abbaye in the old Nice. If you are keen on some travel for food, head to Biot (train stop before Antibes).

Great places to eat
There are of course plenty of places to eat and drink. We liked ‘La Havane’ on Rue de France – nice Carribean stuff; and also Spuntino Divino in the old town on the edge of the market place (Cours Saleya).

Try the Karr
As for restaurants we recommend the ‘Karr’ on Rue Alphone Karr (less than 10mins walk from the apartment) – the food is great and the staff are very friendly. We also tried the ‘Maison de Marie’ on Rue Massena – it is more expensive than the ‘Karr’ but is worth it.

Most restaurants provide a set menu option (some times only a lunch time). This is frequently the best way to get value for money and to be sure of fresh ingredients.
